I have been thinking a lot about human nature and whether people actually have it in them to truly make a change and turn around. The reason why I debate this is stupid in itself but that doesn’t matter it just will not leave my mind. On one hand I feel like if someone does something one time and knows its bad and is remorseful about it and never does said thing or behavior again then that person really did change. But what about the person who does something that they shouldn’t several times and every time says that they will not do it again but yet keeps repeating the same behavior. Would it be possible for this person to change and never do this again? I can’t say that I believe that they can, whatever it is, is obviously too important to give up whether its drugs, stealing, lying or any other number of bad habits. Especially if it seems they put it on someone other than themselves shoulders and say things like “if you were to do this (name anything here) then I won’t do (whatever said thing is) again.” Is that even possible? I know we should all see the bright side and be all forgiving but isn’t there a point where you say “umm fuck no, your just going to do it again”, and just give up on them and go on? I hope that I am right in this.

i think that people can change. it is totally up to the individual though. they have to find whatever it is causing the action and work through a way to go about things differently. like right now my son is having problems, again. he is a wonderful man but he has a gambling addiction. he says time and time again that he is going to quit, but the minute he gets his paycheck he heads right to the video lottery machines. he doesn’t want to do that and feels so much guilt afterwards, but he obviously hasn’t hit his “rock bottom” yet. it is very frustrating for me to watch this and know that there isn’t anything i can do to help him. i just pray that he will find his way out soon.
