When I was a kid my grandmother was always crafting and making something whether it be something Vacation Bible School, knitting, or even sewing. I also remember her Painters Markers, it seemed like she had every single color there was and my sister and I would love to try and use them. Granted we were children and didn’t get to a whole lot. Something about them being permanent and kids making messes.

I am all grown up now and I can play with them all I want. So when I got the mission to shop at Walmart for Elmer’s Painters Markers and to decorate a Thanksgiving candle, I got very excited and could not wait to <del>play</del> craft with them.

When I arrived back home with my supplies and Painters Markers, I was ready to get started. My furry assistant even got into the craft area and was either ready to help or ready to stop the whole process based on his chosen place to lay down.

Okay well after I shooed away my “assistant” I gathered everything that I would be needed for my Thanksgiving Candle.

What you need:

1 ribbon cut to 9 3/4 inches

1 patterned paper cut 3 X 9 3/4 inches

1 solid cardstock cut 3 X 9 3/4 inches

embellishments for decorations (I used fabric leaves)

white Elmer’s Painters Marker (from the Bright 5 Pack)

Scrapbooking tape runner adhesive

Elmer’s Glue Spots

Once I got everything ready the first thing that I did was to attache the to sheets of paper together with the tape runner with the solid paper overlapping the patterned paper by 1 inch. After that I glued the ribbon down with the tape runner over the seam of the two sheets of paper.

After I had my ribbon and paper ready to go I used the Painters Marker to write an inspirational quote on the solid paper. I chose the quote:

“Nothing is more honorable than a grateful heart.” -Seneca

To me the quote spoke of what we should all be feeling all of the time instead of just at Thanksgiving, I believe it fits perfectly.

With the quote in place I used Glue Spots to attach the fabric leaves around my quote to finish off the decorations for my candle. Done with that I used my handy dandy tape runner to attach my work to my candle.

With everything in place I was really proud and thrilled with how my candle will look at our table when we eat Thanksgiving dinner.

I really enjoyed making this candle and for my full Google+ story from my trip to Walmart to buy my Painters Markers to my finished candle please visit here!

This project has been compensated as part of a social shopper insights study for Elmer’s #gluenglitter #collectivebias #CBias All opinions are 100% my own.

I can do that.

And I can do that with songs too. Some look at me like I am crazy, my kids dad sits with me and laughs.

I call it mad skills.

But okay I will choose a more serious talent, I love to alter things. Maybe I am talented at it maybe I am not. But I like to do it and it is fun.

I have done appointment books, address books, clipboards, picture frames, storage cans. All kinds of things.

Here is a planner I did a few years back. I need to do some more, they make excellent gifts.

I recently made this altered this cup project using scrapbook supplies and I used those cups you often see that you can unscrew the inside and have your kids color a paper insert that comes in it to customize the cup. I recently purchased one of these cups at dollar tree of all places and fairly surprised by how good the quality of it was. Because to be honest sometimes you can purchase stuff there that you are getting exactly what you pay for and they suck and not even worth the dollar. Well anyway I got the cup and decided to do something different with it.

I used my horde of scrapbook supplies to make it all pretty and be able to brag about my kids at the same time, just not with their artwork but their lovely faces. And besides the fact that I love to just deface stuff and the freaking word is eluding me but cover it with paper and embellishments and all that good stuff.

Okay so what I did is I took out that insert that was in the cup and since it is kind of funny shaped I used semi-permanent adhesive to stick it onto the back my cardstock (acid free scrapbook paper of course). That way it would not be permanently stuck to it and if I got tired of the design I made I could possibly make another and interchange them.

Now since the cardstock and insert are together I cut the cardstock out around the insert sort of like the insert is a pattern. And another idea is to trace it and then cut it out but I am a backwards and a lefty so doing it like a pattern is just easier for me. And after that is done I can just take the insert off and just set it aside for some other time or if you don’t think you will need it toss it.

Now this is my favorite and the fun part. I used a piece of pattern scrapbook paper as a mat for photos of the kids and then a second piece in a different design to add some more color. After I arranged those on the cardstock I placed my pictures on and then added flowers with brads. Also a good touch is to use rub-ons or even stamps to add a phrase or names. I used “My Boys” with scrapbook rub-ons by the photos of my kids. And of course I used ribbon on two corners to add more color and all to it.

It is very simple to do and most of us at one time or another bought scrapbooking stuff that is probably in a corner that is gathering dust. They also make great gifts too.

For this Scrapbook Project you would need -

The cup -dollar tree and hobby lobby are two places I know of.

cardstock

patterned paper

adhesive

scissors (obviously)

embellishments (ribbon, flowers, rub-ons, brads, this part is limitless there are all kinds to choose from!)

Picture(s) of cute kids (this is a must!)

This is my cup and hopefully this will help you make an awesome cup too!
My Scrapbook Cardstock Insert:
