Altered Scrapbook Cup Project

I recently made this altered this cup project using scrapbook supplies and I used those cups you often see  that you can unscrew the inside and have your kids color a paper insert that comes in it to customize the cup.  I recently purchased one of these cups at dollar tree of all places and fairly surprised by how good the quality of it was.  Because to be honest sometimes you can purchase stuff there that you are getting exactly what you pay for and they suck and not even worth the dollar.  Well anyway I got the cup and decided to do something different with it.

I used my horde of scrapbook supplies to make it all pretty and be able to brag about my kids at the same time, just not with their artwork but their lovely faces.  And besides the fact that I love to just deface stuff and the freaking word is eluding me but cover it with paper and embellishments and all that good stuff.

Okay so what I did is I took out that insert that was in the cup and since it is kind of funny shaped I used semi-permanent adhesive to stick it onto the back my cardstock (acid free scrapbook paper of course).  That way it would not be permanently stuck to it and if I got tired of the design I made I could possibly make another and interchange them.

Now since the cardstock and insert are together I cut the cardstock out around the insert sort of like the insert is a pattern.  And another idea is to trace it and then cut it out but I am a backwards and a lefty so doing it like a pattern is just easier for me.  And after that is done I can just take the insert off and just set it aside for some other time or if you don’t think you will need it toss it.

Now this is my favorite and the fun part.  I used a piece of pattern scrapbook paper as a mat for photos of the kids and then a second piece in a different design to add some more color.  After I arranged those on the cardstock I placed my pictures on and then added flowers with brads.  Also a good touch is to use rub-ons or even stamps to add a phrase or names.  I used “My Boys” with scrapbook rub-ons by the photos of my kids.   And of course I used ribbon on two corners to add more color and all to it.

It is very simple to do and most of us at one time or another bought scrapbooking stuff that is probably in a corner that is gathering dust.  They also make great gifts too.

For this Scrapbook Project you would need -

  1. The cup -dollar tree and hobby lobby are two places I know of.
  2. cardstock
  3. patterned paper
  4. adhesive
  5. scissors (obviously)
  6. embellishments (ribbon, flowers, rub-ons, brads, this part is limitless there are all kinds to choose from!)
  7. Picture(s) of cute kids (this is a must!)

This is my cup and hopefully this will help you make an awesome cup too!
