In the past I have struggled in getting my children to go to sleep on time. It has been a huge issue for me and source of stress so I have tried numerous different methods to get them to sleep on time. Though sometimes we slip up on holidays and the weekend and stay up later in order to sleep in and stuff like that. Some of the methods that have worked is giving them a huge filling dinner, full kids seem to go to bed easier. Also I have discovered that if I let them play outside extra during the day and afternoon that is the easiest way to put them to bed, it wears them out really well and they usually fall right to sleep on time. Also of course a warm bath and cozy pajamas work really well as well. And if all else fells and they don’t want to go to sleep and they keep getting out of bed I turn off all of the lights in the house adjacent to their room and either sit on the couch and watch their door or sometimes even sit in their room like a guard until they fall aslep, I know that sounds kind of bad but with a hyperactive six year old its what you have to do sometimes. But for the most part I have discovered that the most important thing is to always be consistent at bedtime and to stick with it!
To sum it all up my tips for bedtime are:
- A filling meal.
- Letting the kids get all of their excess energy out outdoors.
- Warm bath and cozy pajamas.
- Standing guard at the door(Not the best I know, but it works.) and making sure it is dark.
- And most of all being consistent at bedtime with times!
