When Your Teen is Out of Control

You don’t know what happened. The teen years hit and your son has changed. He’s disruptive and volatile. You never know what to expect of him. He’s running around with a bad crowd and you fear that negative influences may lead him down the wrong path in life. You want to do something about it before it is too late, but you don’t know where to begin. Consider the following options to help you bring your teenager back to you.

Monitor Activities Closely
You need to know exactly what your teen is up to when you are not around. You can set up a tracking system with his cellular phone to be advised of his location at all times. If he has his phone, you will know where he is. You should also monitor your son’s activities on the computer in order to be aware of what kind of sites he is visiting and who he is interacting with online. When your teen is not at home, inspect his room to find out if he is hiding anything. It may seem intrusive, but you have to use tough love to stay on top of the situation.

Have a Heart to Heart
Sit down with your child and talk with him. Share your concerns. Ask if there are problems at school, with peers, or his extracurricular activities. Find out if there is anything that you can do to help. Let your son know that you love him and you are worried about him. You might be able to get your teen to confide in you.

Try Counseling Services
If your own efforts don’t work, you can turn to an expert. Bring your teenager to counseling services. You can have individual sessions and family sessions to help everyone to find a way to meet in the middle.

Consider an Intense Intervention
When all else has failed, juvenile boot camp could be the solution that you need to turn your son’s life around. The Wood Creek Academy provides a variety of programs that emphasize responsibility and accountability, helping your teen to build self-esteem and transform his life in a positive way. There is no shame in asking for help when you are doing everything possible to guide your teen toward a productive, rewarding life. Make it a team effort. A brighter future for your teenager is worth taking advantage of every, possible resources.
